Surprise Cake has no Borders

Surprise Cake has no Borders

We have just landed back in Boston from the SoFlo show in downtown Miami. We feel overwhelmed by travel exhaustion, pockets overflowing with business cards, and a list of reminders that seems to increase by the minute. But we also couldn’t feel more grateful to have been part of the show and are incredibly excited about the potential opportunities in store already. When we started selling last June, people in the cake industry told us that we needed to be at this convention if we wanted to get our idea to the hands of the cake connoisseurs. But we hadn’t expected just how wonderful it would be to meet all of the amazing cake artists, suppliers, influencers, distributors and sugar lovers, face-to-face.

The amount of people that popped by our booth wanting to learn about Surprise Cake encouraged us to remain on our feet for both of the seven-hour long days. When shoppers first came by, they would laugh and point to the minion hiding inside the cupcake stand, summon their friends over to see the money popping out of the pink tiered cake, or take pictures and videos of the gumballs, gift cards, engagement ring, “it’s a girl” chocolates, nip bottles and other gifts that filled the pods on the display table. Those initial reactions soon turned into conversations. We were flattered by their words of praise and support -some even said they came to the show to see us!- and were delighted by everyone’s creative ideas, all of which reinforced our belief in the fun of sweet surprise gifting. Connecting with everyone was our favorite part.

The internet has been an incredible tool for its ability to link us to so many people around the globe through our website, social media messaging, and seeing their hysterical reaction videos, but nothing compares to speaking with, laughing with, and getting to know them in person! It was a breath of fresh air to be in the same space with everyone, and we feel so fortunate to be able to work with some of them soon. We met supporters from England, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Columbia and all across the US, who expressed the same excitement that we have about our surprise concept. To all of you who we met already, in person or not, and to you reading this blog post right now, we appreciate you so much. Please reach out to us whenever you want with videos, pictures, questions, or just to say hey! If you want to meet us, we plan to continue to expand our POPulation at SoFlo 2020, and have lots of other exciting things planned for Surprise Cake before then!

 Sincerely,

 Liz, Jordan, and Dana
